Born and raised in Hong Kong. Yin is a writer, lives and works in London. After finishing her bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Hong Kong Baptist University, she pursued a master’s degree in Gender Studies at University College London. Since then she has been an active member in the Hong Kong LGBTQ movement. Putting her studies into practice, she wrote film reviews and recommendations from a gender studies perspective and with a non-judgemental and sex positive attitude. Her work is seen on various Hong Kong online platforms including Cinezen and G-Dot TV.

Her works address queer sexualities, identity, desire, migration as well as diaspora in the modern times. Her first book Yung Yung - a novella published with CLEAN PRESS in Feb 2019, Hong Kong, told a story of a French Chinese girl and her love affairs. The identity and sexual struggles of second generation immigrants unfolds. The Taiwanese version was published in 2022 with Squirrel Culture, Taiwan and the 2nd edition was printed in 2024. The work was selected in the Aesop Queer Library Hong Kong in 2022 with Yin being one of the three focus writers of the event.

Diasporic trauma, identity, in-betweenness, belonging, non-relationship and loneliness are the motifs of Yin’s work. She corporates these themes into her second book Grafting - a 110,000-word novel that depicts the love life of a new immigrant from Hong Kong as an analogy to the integrating process of moving from one’s hometown to another city. It was published by Squirrel Culture in 2024, Taiwan.

Her next endeavour Rabbit Hole (working title) continues to explore queer sexuality and identity, together with queer friendship.
